The Finance Manager/Controller is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the operations of Accounting and Finance, including accounts payable, bank reconciliations, month end close, and payroll.
Essential functions
* Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures along with a system of controls to be updated as needed.
* Monitors daily cash flow and general ledger for proper classifications.
* Hires, trains, supervises, and directs the work of accounting and payroll staff.
* Prepares or reviews journal entries for month end close culminating in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements/reports.
* Oversees payroll, payroll liabilities, and time and attendance administration, including salary pools for shareholder physicians and bonus calculation for non-shareholder providers.
* Analyzes financial trends to assist with business funding decisions.
Prepares comparison reports for financial presentation to the board and management.
* Prepares journey entries, shareholder bonus calculations, and year end payouts.
* Directs the process for payments to vendors and staff including staff expenses, wires, and ACH payments.
* Works with external auditors and provides needed information for annual audits.
* Files quarterly and annual reports with the appropriate agencies.
* Plans, organizes, and coordinates the year-end close process internally.
* Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
* Prepares ad hoc reports as requested.
* Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
* Management and leadership principles.
* Accounting software (QuickBooks online preferred), and Excel usage including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and IF statements.
* Billing practices and medical billing software.
* Medical terminology, insurance terminology, and CPT, HCPCs, and ICD codes.
* Time management, problem solving, multitasking, organizing, and prioritizing.
* Providing leadership and coaching to departmental personnel.
* Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals inside and outside the practice.
* Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information including adherence to HIPPA regulations.
* Meeting deadlines and completing work in an accurate and thorough manner.
* Exhibiting a professional manner in dealing with others and working to maintain constructive working relationships.
Supervisory responsibilities
* Supervises Accounting and Payroll personnel.
Physical requirements
* Sitting for approximately 80% percent of the day.
* Frequent walking and standing on a daily basis.
* Occasional bending and lifting up to 15 pounds.
* Ability to travel to multiple clinic locations.
* Fine motor skills.
* Visual acuity.
Required education and experience
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
* Minimum five to seven years related experience, which includes two years of management experience.
Preferred education and experience
* Certified Public Accountant
* Public Accounting experience
