Summary
The Associate Director, Payroll and Accounting is responsible for all the traditional steps of preparing, processing, and auditing payroll on a semi-monthly basis; as well as preparing, reviewing, and analyzing monthly and quarterly financial statements.
This position will be responsible for providing financial information to management by analyzing accounting data, maintaining accounting controls, and preparing financial reports.
This role requires knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, knowledge of business principles, strong multi-tasking and organizational skills and a demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.

Accounting
Reconcile general ledger accounts, analyze and verify financial data and account reports, compile information for finance team regarding accounting policies and procedures, provide overall support for the general accounting needs
Maintain capital asset and lease ledgers
Ensure compliance with corporate governance policies, including the Insider Trading Policy and Related Party Policy
Lead monthly accounting close functions including bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, account reconciliations, vendor accruals and other month-end close analysis and reconciliations as needed
Support the Finance team in the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts
Review areas of responsibility for improvement opportunities
Extensive use of NetSuite and Microsoft Excel to assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports, journal entries and analysis
Payroll
Lead payroll process for hourly and salary payrolls with multi-state operations
Calculate and process overtime, deductions, including bonuses, garnishments, reimbursements, relocation, and final payments for termed employees
Analyze and interpret changes to payroll laws and compliance requirements in multiple states to determine proper treatment
Review all timecards for accuracy and ensure appropriate approvals from managers
Manage payroll workflow to ensure all transactions are processed accurately and timely
Maintain and reconcile all payroll-related general ledger accounts of ERP system with payroll records
Understand proper taxation of employer paid fringe and benefits
Understand the tax impact of stock option exercises and restricted stock unit (RSU) vesting and process payroll and taxes accordingly
Process accurate and timely year-end reporting
Coordinate with HR with respect to employee changes, additions, terminations, etc.
Reconcile and process vendor invoices related to employee deductions from payroll and benefits
Process unemployment requests
Process verification of employment requests
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and 10 years of progressively responsible experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years managing multi-state payroll
Understanding of market, industry and economic factors that drive the business and financial results
Understanding of GAAP and accounting principles, ability to provide critical analysis of various results and variances
Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite including exceptional Excel skills (proficiency with pivot
tables, v-lookup, sorting, filtering, and formulas), TriNet or other payroll processing platforms
CPP or CPA highly desirable
Experience processing payroll through TriNet a plus
Travel Requirements
Little to no travel is expected for this position.
Location
This is a flexible office-based position in San Francisco, CA.
Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
A discretionary annual bonus and LTI may be available based on individual and Company performance.
