Job Overview We are looking for a driven and dynamic Chief Accounting Officer to serve as a key member of the Chief Financial Officer’s leadership team.
You will be responsible for the smooth and efficient functioning of the Company's day-to-day accounting operations.
You will build best practices across the organization, introducing policies, technology and automation to help transform the way we work and report in a rapidly growing company.
You will own the Company’s GAAP oversight, financial reporting, and tax functions, and will work closely with our external and internal auditors, and other members of the organization to complete our quarterly SEC reporting on a timely basis.
The position can be based in either our Durham, NC or Houston, TX office.
Responsibilities & Duties Reporting Ensure the timely and accurate closing of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, ensuring that all comply with US GAAP and SEC reporting standards.
Manage/lead the external audit process, working closely with external auditors and delivering a clean audit opinion on time and on-budget.
Oversee and manage all tax compliance activities to ensure all reporting and filings are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Partner with Finance to create and maintain the corporate budgeting and variance reporting process.
Partner with the CFO to determine accounting implications for all material business decisions.
Compliance Develop and/or modify accounting policies and procedures to align with requirements of a public company.
Partner with the Internal Audit Director to establish internal controls over financial reporting (SOX) efforts, ensuring the company is properly mitigating financial risks while working to continuously improve its control environment in preparation for eventual 404(a)(b) compliance.
Lead company interaction with the Audit Committee, preparing presentation materials and managing the meeting schedules.
Leadership & Collaboration Lead and mentor the accounting organization while promoting the values and culture of the organization.
Provide senior management and business unit leadership with accurate, actionable and timely GAAP financial statements and work closely with the finance team on establishing and monitoring KPIs to achieve company goals.
Work collaboratively across the organization to drive operational improvements companywide and enhance the Company close cycle.
Implement best in class tools to maximize efficiency in a lean, rapidly growing company.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent required; CPA required; MBA preferred.
At least 15 years progressive experience in accounting and auditing; previous Big 4 public accounting and public company experience required.
5 years' experience leading accounting organization and providing mentoring, coaching and development to create high performing teams.
Strong technical accounting experience and skills including GAAP, SOX, internal audit compliance and SEC reporting.
Experience in a company that develops, builds and/or owns energy or industrial assets is preferred.
Experience with tax compliance including tax receivable agreements, deferred tax liabilities and partnership capital accounts is preferred.
Strong cross functional collaboration skills, working with each business unit on budget development, accounting procedures communication and financial operational policies, while exploring how the team can support operations.
Strong ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Readiness to be hands-on jointly working with the team on various projects.
Excellent technical, computing, and analytical skills, accompanied by proficiency with various software applications, including NetSuite and Workiva.
