DEPARTMENT: Tax Administration DATE POSTED: April 04, 2024 CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled HIRING RANGE: $41,315 - $55,751 POSITION NUMBER: 40000055 JOB TYPE: Full-Time General Description The purpose of this job is to perform responsible clerical work involving the listing and recording of taxed properties or with the receipt of taxes and fees and the preparation and/or maintenance of fiscal or related records.
This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position.
Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Provides assistance to citizens listing real, personal and business properties for the purposes of paying taxes, assessments and fees.
Receives and answers inquiries, complaints, and service requests within boundaries of taxation regulations.
Collects, receipts, balances and accounts for tax collections and fees daily according to the Cash Fund Policy.
Enters, verifies, modifies, corrects and adjusts tax data through computer terminal.
Prepares periodic reports and summaries and/or compiles fiscal data.
Prepares and maintains daily files on collection reports, reconciliation reports, and city reports.
Prepares, files, processes and pulls real estate cards, maps and related documents.
Assists in distributing money, verifying money received, audits of cash drawers.
Transfers and documents ownership of property and estates.
Assigns and maintains account numbers to existing and new real estate property ownership, and real estate data.
Assists in the preparation of bond letters.
Maintains control records not requiring involved procedural determinations.
Assists attorneys and paralegals with basic tax questions.
Operates standard office equipment.
Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) year of experience in customer service, public service, or general office or clerical assistance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Special Certifications and Licenses: Must obtain Assistant Tax Collector certification within two (2) years of eligibility, if position is in Collections Durham County Government is an Equal Opportunity Employer
