Job Purpose An integral member of the accounting team, the Director, Operations Accounting is responsible for the leadership, strategy, and execution of accounting operations.
This includes developing policies and procedures to meet key corporate and business objectives, coordinating budget/forecast preparation, and collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial information.
This role reports to the EVP, Finance & Accounting.
Responsibilities As a key leader and member of the accounting team, the Director, Operations Accounting includes the following responsibilities: · Lead, supervise and develop a team of senior managers, plant/port controllers, and staff accountants ensuring that the team has the resources required to deliver accurate and timely financial information within the established internal control environment.
· Owner of the month end closing process (accuracy and timeliness) for all plant, port, and other operations within Enviva.
Ensures that all closing procedures have been performed appropriately and that all variances against budget/forecast/prior results are sufficiently documented.
· Responsible for establishing and leading an effective internal control environment for all plant, port, and other operations within Enviva.
Monitor and implement internal controls (in conjunction with company policies) ensuring that documentation is sufficient to accommodate internal audit requests Implements and ensures adherence to plant level procedures around inventory management, procure-to-pay, spend control, forecasting, etc.
Successfully engage with the operations and procurement teams, track compliance with process and report exceptions to the operations and finance leadership teams as required.
Achieve expert understanding and management of the plant cost tower end-to-end from initial procurement of raw materials through manufacturing of wood pellets and delivery to the port.
Lead the weekly cost management process and develop cost improvement plans partnering with the operations, engineering, and procurement teams.
Follow a standard process to report progress against cost improvement plans.
Process leader for control and reporting of inventory including raw materials, consumables, spare parts and finished goods inventory.
Drives a culture of accountability that consistently controls and manages inventory levels to sustain operations and to reduce working capital investment where appropriate.
Responsible for obtaining, refreshing and reporting on accurate metrics that enable operations and procurement leaders to manage their areas of responsibility more effectively.
Prepare financial and operational performance measurement and key indicator reports for incorporation into weekly and monthly operations packages.
· Lead the monthly forecast process and annual budget process for all plant, port and other operations within Enviva which includes preparing financial statements supported by key operating and procurement assumptions linked to specific actions and identified owners.
Responsible for designing a process that captures and quantifies anticipated risks as well as the associated mitigation plans.
· Represent the accounting team on cross functional projects and initiatives.
Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce procedures via systems that improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of Enviva’s operations.
· Primary point of contact for the internal and external auditors for all matters associated with Enviva’s plant, port, and other operations.
Work closely with the internal and external auditors during site visits and quarterly/annual detail testing of transactions and controls, including to ensure efficient and effective testing and monitoring of results.
· Prepare other ad hoc management reports as necessary and perform other tasks as assigned, including the potential to perform accounting-related due diligence on potential acquisitions of plants from third parties and to support integration into Enviva processes, systems, and controls.
· Exhibit and promote high levels of ethics, integrity, accountability, and determination.

in Accounting or Finance required; MBA/CPA preferred.
· Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, 4 in a manufacturing organization, prior supervisory experience · Previous plant controllership experience highly preferred · Previous success in driving business process re-engineering and organizational change · Ability to drive business operating results.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff.
Strong analytical abilities; organized with attention to detail.
· Motivated self-starter, comfortable working in an unstructured environment.
Expert knowledge of Excel, Word and accounting systems is required Working Conditions · Hybrid work · Must be able to travel to Bethesda and Raleigh office for critical in-person events and meetings as needed · Occasional travel to plants and port sites (manufacturing facilities) required; Likely requires air and/or car travel of long distances Physical Requirements · Corporate office setting with 95% desk work, will have sit/stand desk.
