About the Department
The CALS Business Operations (CBO) is an administrative unit within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and has oversight of the College’s centralized financial and research administration services including, Business Services, Budgets and Planning, Research Administration, and Operational Support.
The CBO’s mission is to provide exceptional customer service while supporting efficient and ethical use of resources.
The CBO upholds the academic, research, and extension goals and initiatives of the CALS community.
The CBO is committed to providing exemplary and responsive customer care, to serving as a subject matter expert regarding applicable state, university, and federal policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, and to achieving and maintaining operational excellence.
Essential Job Duties This Accountants Payable Initiator position operates under the Business Services Unit.
Business Services centrally processes financial transactions for the College’s twelve academic departments, 101 County Extensions Service offices across the state, the NC Agricultural Research Services (NCARS) Office, and its eighteen (18) agricultural research stations, as well as, the NC Agricultural and Tobacco Foundations.
Duties include, but are not limited to: Process procurement card transactions with the P-Card unit within Business Services for approval Monitor work and workflow Assist with resolving queries for CALS departments, administrative and support units in the college for state and federal appropriations, sponsored programs, sales and service, gifts, foundations, and trust funds You Belong Here! Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (or similar software) and basic accounting principles.
Ability to make sound decisions and manage time and workflow.
Ability to effectively communicate with individuals and groups to ensure understanding.
Demonstrated knowledge in compliance management for contracts and grants, knowledge of state and federal spending guidelines, and gifts and foundations accounting.
Ability to work in a diverse team.
Preferred Qualifications Four-year degree in business administration or accounting and one year of experience, two-year degree in business administration or accounting and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
PeopleSoft Financials including WOLF Reports.
Prior management experience, especially managing diverse teams, is desired.
