Key Responsibilities:
Conduct business personal property and gross receipts tax audits
Apply auditing and accounting principles and practices in examination of taxpayer records and returns
Discover and list unreported and underreported property
Value property using appraisal methodology and the NC Department of Revenue’s Cost Index and Depreciation Schedules
Complete formal written audit reports and develop summary spreadsheets and tables
Discuss and resolve complex ad valorem tax matters with professional judgment and adherence to NC General Statutes
Provide technical guidance and assistance to Tax Administration and other staff
Respond to inquiries from business taxpayers, accounting professionals and attorneys
Prepare agenda items for appeal hearings
Perform other duties as needed

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field
Two years of experience in accounting or auditing
Equivalent education and experience are accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Certified Public Accountant with five years of experience in business and/or financial auditing
Comprehensive knowledge of property and sales tax general statutes
Strong communication, writing, computer and organizational skills
Experience with Microsoft Excel
Experience reviewing business personal property listings and examining financial records
Ability to obtain certification from the North Carolina Department of Revenue as a Personal Property Appraiser within 2 years
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and safe driving record required
