The North Carolina Department of Revenue is currently recruiting for a Revenue Tax Technician position to work in the Examination Division.
The individual selected for this position must have excellent communications skills both written and oral; a strong work ethic; be able to prioritize and multitask; and exceptional time management skills.
The Revenue Tax Technician must be able to maintain rational behavior during interactions with taxpayers and demonstrate courteous, professional, and efficient behavior while dealing with controversial matters.
This position performs a number of tasks within the Withholding Section within Central Examination.
The tax technician is involved in educating and assisting taxpayers in the area of tax compliance and reporting procedures to ensure compliance with tax laws.
The position makes technical determinations based upon established procedures that require an accurate analysis of data and situations to draw sound conclusions which result in effective courses of action.
This position performs technical functions by reviewing and analyzing data in the withholding tax schedule.
The position makes technical determinations based upon established procedures that require an accurate analysis of data and situations to draw sound conclusions which result in effective courses of action.
The work involves reviewing tax returns and related documents for completeness and accuracy.
The position accesses and reviews taxpayer account information and enters information into ITAS based on their review and departmental rules and regulations, and assists in maintenance of databases and spreadsheets related to the audit programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Considerable knowledge of business and accounting principles.
Strong analytical skills.
Basic knowledge of taxation principles and terminology.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.

Associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field from an appropriately accredited institution, and one year work experience preferably in an accounting-related environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
