Description of Work
DST is looking for a Retirement Accountant.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, as well as retirement.
** This position has a recruitment range of $46,817 - $65,000 ** *** This position will have the capability to telework one day per week once fully oriented *** This position will: Be responsible for accounting and financial reporting duties for the Retirement Plans administered by the Department of State Treasurer.
Perform month-end close processes and balance all cash accounts for Retirement Accounting by creating and posting journal entries into multiple general ledger systems from the Retirement Systems Division.
Support the closing of the accounting books for the retirement systems.
Support the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
Process Retirement Systems payrolls which ensure funds are properly and timely made available for payments and schedule state and federal tax payments for settlement of withholding liabilities.
Perform monthly reconciliations for the disbursing accounts utilizing multiple reporting system sources as well as participate in the annual system reconciliation.
Receive and apply manual payments and make remote bank deposits.
Create and prepare monthly comparative financial statements and research and analyze variances between reporting periods.
Prepare desktop guides and policies related to duties within Retirement Accounting.
3 Support the other Retirement Accountant, as the primary back up, performing responsibilities of that position as needed.

The Division is comprised of four areas: Procurement and Contracting, Banking Operations, Bank Reconciliation Unit, and Accounting.
Accounting manages the accounting and financial reporting for all funds that are deposited, invested, and disbursed through the Department of State Treasurer including the $150 billion investment pool and banking programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following: Considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting methods, procedures and financial practices.
Ability to interpret and apply common to moderately complex Federal and State fiscal regulations.
Ability to analyze and correct financial problems and accounting errors.
Ability to make minor adjustments to the accounting system and procedures.
Ability to prepare interpretive or analytical accounting or financial reports Management Preferences: Two years of overall professional work experience.
Ability to perform analysis and evaluate financial information with the use of Excel and financial reporting tools.
Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and high ethical standards.

Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a degree in business administration, finance or public administration or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution with 18 semester hours of accounting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
