Do you enjoy cuddling with baby goats and petting pigs? Do you love working with children? Do you want to inspire a love of farms, animals and nature? 1870 Farm is looking for summer staff to lead, engage and inspire children ages 3-15.
If you're an artist, animal lover, kitchen wizard, outdoor adventurer or all-around camping pro, we'd love to have you join our team! 1870 Farm is a 17 acre farm that was created as a free-range paradise for children where they can hang out with chickens, befriend a goat or two, pan for sparkling gemstones, get dirty in the gardens, fish for bass, and so much more! We run 9 weeks of summer day camp each summer across our farm, with activities ranging from farm animal care and handling, gardening, cooking, and outdoor skills.

com/camp-daily-schedules Successful camp staff have a desire to learn about our farm and its animals and a desire to share their passion for summer camp with young people.
Day camp staff will work with a new group of 12-15 campers each week .
Junior camp counselors guide our youngest campers (ages 3-4) during their half-day adventures on the farm.
*Qualifications and Experience of a Successful Counselor:* * At least 16 years of age * Be able to lift and carry 50# * Be able walk and run over uneven ground * Previous experience attending or working in a camp / child care setting * Comfortable working in an outdoor / farm setting with animals * An ability to conduct activities safely, and work on a team with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, creativity, open-mindedness, and flexibility * Have reliable daily transportation to and from camp (1870 Farm in Chapel Hill) *Responsibilities* * Counselors foster a relationship with the same group of campers for a week at a time while ensuring campers’ safety and wellbeing during camp activities * Counselors run planned camp activities, and may also propose their own camp activities * Counselors supervise campers’ participation in activities, and are an active part of all activities (i.
e.
farm animal interactions, lunchtime games, crafts, produce harvesting) * Work with other camp staff to complete morning set-up and afternoon clean-up of camp areas * Ensuring the safety of children, staff, visitors and animals * Using appropriate group management and conflict resolution skills to ensure the emotional wellbeing of children * Providing emergency medical care if needed (First Aid and CPR training are provided as part of staff training) We expect all staff to be ready to learn and grow as they guide our campers in doing the same.
Safety- both physical and emotional- is our highest priority.
