*About us*
Little House Playschool is a small play-based, outdoor-oriented, creative, “messy” school.
We value social/emotional learning, community, personal responsibility, cultivating joy and guiding each child’s unique personal growth.
Little House Playschool is a happy place that invites exploration, nurtures play and ignites creative thinking.
We make abundant use of our large tree-filled outdoor classroom digging in the garden, splashing in mud puddles, painting the fence, identifying birds and lying on a blanket watching the clouds.
We are looking for teachers who believe as we do that a solid foundation of social and emotional skills is vital for growing happy humans as well as for building a healthy community.
At Little House we teach children love through attention, empathy, and respectful social interactions.
We guide children while they are learning and give them the reins as their confidence leads the way.
We love the community we’ve built and so do the families.
Alums return each year for summer camps, and the majority of the children in our after school program have grown up at Little House.
We value our teachers, prioritize their teaching experience and encourage them to bring their own unique interests and skills to the school.
*Job Summary*: Little House Playschool is hiring 2 after school teachers for the 2024-25 school year.
8-24 hours per week.
The role of the after school teacher is to supervise and interact with the children (ages K-5th grade), build relationships, help the children make new friends and have fun while ensuring the physical and emotional safety of every child.
$20-25/hour.
*Commitment*: Immediately.
We are hiring for the 2024-25 school year, but would love to find teachers who would like to put down some roots, and who might also be interested in additional hours in our morning program.
Our school year runs from late August to early June, with the option of working summer camp next summer.
*Responsibilities*: * Work during After School from 2:30-6:15 Monday-Friday (5 days).
Ideally we are looking for teachers who are available to work all 5 afternoons a week, but are open to 2-4 days per week if we find just the right people.
* Walk the children every afternoon from the elementary school across the street to our school (a 2 minute walk).
* Interact with and supervise 10-11 students each afternoon.
Currently we have one teacher and 10 students.
If we were to hire a second teacher the ratio would be 15-16 students and two teachers.
Low ratios ensure both kids and teachers have more fun together! * Plan, prep and offer enrichment activities based on your interests and the interests of the children.
The after school is largely play-based and unstructured, but students also appreciate a teacher-led art or enrichment activity, especially children who are new to the program.
* Assist with homework if requested, or provide space and opportunity for children to work independently.
* Interact with young children in a way that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, problem solving, independence and kindness.
* Facilitate healthy and respectful interactions and social negotiations between children.
Coach and model effective and respectful communication.
* Communicate with parents through Brightwheel, the school messaging app; such as when a child has left a jacket, if a child is absent, reminders to pack a snack, etc.
.
Larger issues can be handled by the Director via email.
* Interacting with parents at pickup time and communicating behavior issues, exciting new skills development, or news about friendship interactions.
* Occasional admin duties (ordering art supplies, organizing the art cabinet, for example) * Clean the classroom at the end of each day; vacuum, sweep and wipe surfaces.
*After School Teacher qualities*: * We value a collaborative/team approach to working with students, families, and staff.
To this end, we appreciate candidates with a high level of creativity, enthusiasm, sensitivity, flexibility, and playfulness.
* Reliability, dependability and punctuality are crucial.
* Exemplify the school's emphasis on character development and community and have an appreciation for our values and vision.
* Ability to work independently.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Strong classroom management skills.
*Qualifications*: * Prior experience working with children in a leadership position (required).
* CPR/First Aid Certified OR willing to become certified before the school year begins.
