POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Y Learning Teacher leads literacy lessons based on HELPS small group curriculum for a group of children in a YMCA Y Learning program.
Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values.
They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
Job Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 12:30pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Implements literacy lessons based on HELPS small group intervention with fidelity to small groups of children in Y Learning program.
Gathers materials and leads lessons for students who are participating in literacy small groups, and additional intervention curriculum as outlined by school admin.
Maintains accurate data as stipulated by HELPS curriculum and additional intervention curriculum as outlined by the school admin on a weekly basis.
Adheres to program quality and fidelity standards.
Attends staff meetings and trainings including all HELPS trainings.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Maintains positive relationships with parents and other staff.
Partners with YMCA staff to maintain communication with classroom teachers to receive feedback and guidance on best approaches to use with each student.
Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience teaching within an elementary classroom setting is required.
Previous experience working with students in different grades is preferred.
Elementary teaching certification required.
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Ability to lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of indoor settings.
Multi-lingual desired but not required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
