*Job Description*
The laboratory led by Arnaldo Carreira Rosario at Duke University (BootingUpTheBrain.
org) is hiring a "dry lab" Research Technician.
This researcher will work on improving existing and developing new methods to analyze imaging data sets as well as assist in maintaining the server and computing infrastructure of the lab.
The candidate will also work closely with experimental biologists to design/perform experiments.
Imaging data sets will mainly be of neural activity recordings using genetically encoded calcium indicators.
These recordings will be related to ongoing projects as well as new projects developed by the candidate with the guidance of the principal investigator and collaborators.
Contributions will merit authorship in subsequent publications.
The project focuses on tracking the activity of neural populations that turn on early in the life of an animal to dissect their function in the developing brain.
This project uses fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) as an experimental system.
The predicted time allocation for these responsibilities is:
* Improving existing methods and developing new methods to analyze imaging data sets (70%): Together with other lab members the candidate will review and evaluate existing analysis pipelines, identify areas for improvement, and implement modifications to increase accuracy, efficiency, or applicability.
The candidate will also contribute to the development of new methods that might be needed.
* Data analysis and interpretation (20%): The software engineer will also analyze and interpret the results obtained from the improved/developed methods.
The candidate will interpret the findings and draw conclusions that contribute to the overall research objectives.
* Assisting in maintaining the server and computing infrastructure of the lab (10%): This includes managing and troubleshooting server systems, ensuring data storage and backup systems are functioning properly, and optimizing the computing environment for efficient data processing and analysis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone to gain research experience and publish in preparation for graduate school or to move into the private sector.
It is preferred that the candidate commits for one year.
Should the candidate be interested, this position has the potential to extend beyond one year, offering the opportunity to transition into a more permanent role within the lab.
Interested applicants should send an email to arnaldo.
