The Disability Services Coordinator provides academic, personal, and student development services and counseling to students with disabilities at Durham Technical Community College.
The coordinator develops and coordinates student assistance programs and activities that respond to the academic and personal needs of students with disabilities; Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with internal and community service agencies related to students with disabilities receiving support; as well as serves as liaison between students, instructors, the college, and community agencies to facilitate success and resolve concerns.
*Examples of Duties* * Collect and review disability assessment documentation for students with specific disabilities and provide recommendations for academic accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), federal or state regulations, and college procedures; * Maintain accurate documentation and student records in the accessibility services software system; * Oversee accessibility services testing process; * Coordinate assistive technology, hire interpreters, arrange reading, note-taking, and scribe services, and manage accommodations for students with disabilities; * Coordinate and implement workshops for students focused on awareness of Counseling Accessibility and Resources office services and resources, and the improvement of academic or other skills for students with disabilities; * Assist in the development of college policies and procedures related to students and employees with disabilities; * Work in conjunction with academic advising to provide accurate information on academic policies and guidance to students, or make appropriate referrals to address academic difficulties; * Provide consultation to college employees regarding accessibility related questions and concerns; * Provide general information and appropriate referral to walk-in students in student services; * Design and conduct faculty and staff development workshops which increase the academic and personal support to students with disabilities; * Provide backup support for counseling services, in order to help avoid disruptions in service to students, as needed; * Create a welcoming and positive relationship with visitors and ensure the exchange provides accurate and up-to-date information; * Ensure proper security for Durham Tech’s student educational records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), state aw, NC Community College System regulations, and college policies and procedures; * Ensure college compliance in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), state law, NC Community College System regulations, and college policies and procedures; * Participate in professional development opportunities to keep up-to-date on current college practices, regulations, student information system processes * (Colleague), communications management, and excellent customer service; * Maintain collegial, intraoffice relationships with other staff in the Counseling, Accessibility, and Resources office; * Actively participate as part of the office’s team in planning and decision-making for the Counseling, Accessibility, and Resources office; and * Additional duties as assigned by the director, dean, vice president, and/or the president.
*Minimum Qualifications* Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, education, psychology, social work or related field.
*Work Experience:* Two years of experience working with accessibility-related accommodations in accessibility services, other student services, vocational rehabilitation, or counseling position.
Supplemental Information *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * * A thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System; * Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, FERPA, IDEA, and other relevant laws; * Familiarity with neuropsychological/psycho-social assessment instruments and the interpretation of results of such testing; * Evidence of strong interpersonal, problem solving and critical thinking skills; * Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; * Competence in oral and written communication skills necessary for effective counseling; * Ability to make presentations to large audiences; * Previous experience or working knowledge of assistive/adaptive and instructional technologies; * Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality; * Ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs, and services for students; * Competence in computer technologies, such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation programs and student information management systems; * Commitment to working with and supporting the needs of a diverse population; * Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive interpersonal relations throughout the college and the community; * Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students and colleagues; * Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive interpersonal relations throughout the college and the community; * Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend hours consistent with student need; * Attention to detail; and * Ability to provide excellent customer service to students and community members.

The physical and mental demands described as follows are representative of those that must be met by an employee in performing the essential functions of this job: * Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time; * Ability to lift, at times,10 lbs.
; * Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use a computer for long periods of time; * Ability to express or exchange ideas through oral communication and to hear vocal responses within office range; and * Infrequent travel between buildings on campus, to other campuses, or locally or out-of-town to attend conferences/workshops.
*Normal Working Hours:* A minimum of a 40-hour work week as determined by the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours.
Summer schedules may vary to enable four-day or four-and-one-half-day work weeks.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $49,959.
00 - $62,448.
