Under general supervision, manage execution and timely completion of safety evaluations from determining project scope to documentation and testing.
Specialize in evaluating hardware and software functional safety reliability in controls within Appliances, HVAC, and Lighting systems.
This will include analyzing electrical schematics, software architecture, and assessing failure mitigation strategies through risk assessments.
Assists in the development of UL requirements, test methods, and test equipment.
Excellent communication and the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams is essential.
Proactively manages the full lifecycle of safety evaluations, by driving timely completion of a construction analysis, documentation generation, test execution, and final product certification.
Analyze electrical schematics and assess HW and SW for potential hazards using techniques like FMEA and risk assessments.
Evaluate the effectiveness of existing failure mitigation strategies to ensure safe operation under various conditions in the end equipment.
Prescribe rigorous testing and inspection of controls, verifying product adherence to UL/IEC 60730-1 and other relevant standards.
May assist in the development of UL Standards, including construction requirements, test methods, and test equipment.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.
g.
, sales, engineering, laboratory, quality) throughout the product evaluation lifecycle.
Prepare detailed technical reports and recommendations for manufacturers, guiding them towards achieving UL certification.
Stay up-to-date on evolving safety standards and regulations, ensuring the company's compliance and best practices.
Contribute to client programs by interacting regularly with clients in technical program meetings and project reviews.
Communicate project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
Address any client concerns and help to resolve client issues by providing excellent customer service.
Projects may include travel to client sites and to other UL locations.
Contribute to verification reviews or other technical review activities as directed.
Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of laboratory technicians and establishing timely completion dates.
Coordinates administrative aspects of project management.
May serve as Project Handler of record and/or Reviewer of record as assigned.
Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
May represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
Integrate continuous improvement and safety culture in all aspects of the job.
Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
Performs other duties as directed.
University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering or a closely related field in a relevant technical field.
