The Mail Service Center is a full-service, centralized mail operation for state government that includes the processing and delivery of outbound and inbound U.
S.
mail and interoffice mail for state offices in Wake County and courier mail services for state agencies, community colleges, public school systems and the university system in all 100 counties.
Job duties include the following: Picking up and delivering time sensitive laboratory specimens; Driving inner city and statewide routes using state trucks and vans.
Transporting large containers of mail.
Weighing and metering mail.
X-ray of all inbound mail.
Mechanical and manual sorting of large quantities of mail.
Creating manifest of signature mail.
Heavy lifting may be required.
Operating postage meter machines and courier mail machines to process state mail.
Ability to operate a tracking system software to track accountable mail.
Ability to work with computers and download files.
Sorting mail by 4-6 digit numbers mailing codes.
Bundling mail for courier route delivery.
Clean and maintain work areas and equipment.
Work during weekends and Holidays as need it.
Maintain data logs throughout routes.
Additional duties as assigned.
Driving in all weather conditions is required to perform these duties.
In all cases, night driving is required within the state of North Carolina, and requires employees to work a minimum of four (4) days ten (10)-hour days per week.
This position could require working weekends and holidays as need it.
Division/ Department Overview The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public.
The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state’s population that have traditionally been underserved.
The agency’s mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies.

Experience working with postage equipment.
Management Preferences: Knowledge of various types of US mail and the proper handling methods; knowledge of postal guidelines and procedures.
Experience in delivery methods and mail processing and handling.
Necessary Requirement: Able to lift heavy packages up to 70 lbs.
This is a condition of employment: Employee is required to wear a uniform, use safety equipment and follow safety regulations which are provided by the State.
SPECIAL NOTE: Candidate must present proof of a valid NC Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record.
An acceptable driving record is having less than 4 points.
