Lower School Art Teacher
The Opportunity:
Carolina Friends School (CFS) is excited to offer an opportunity for a part-time (50%) Art Teacher to join our staff in August 2024.
The teacher will join a Lower School staff of skilled, dedicated teachers committed to the growth of the whole child and continually developing a student-centered, mission-driven curriculum.
This teacher will plan a developmentally appropriate art curriculum for ages 6 to 10-year-olds and write narrative assessments for each student.
This teacher will seek ways to collaborate with Lower School Staff and share student art with Lower School families and the wider CFS community.
In addition, this teacher will serve on school-wide committees, participate in our new staff mentoring program, and participate in school-wide staff development.

Traits and Requirements: Strong candidates will demonstrate: experience teaching art at the elementary level a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in elementary education strong understanding of early childhood development in-depth knowledge of elementary curriculum and best teaching practices rich repertoire of teaching strategies to address a variety of learning styles and needs ability to engage in student evaluation and feedback proficiency with digital communication and ability to integrate technology effectively in the classroom ability to foster positive relationships with and among students and parents commitment to continuous professional learning, including understanding and application of current research and participation in professional development opportunities ability and interest in collaborative work with colleagues in the classroom and throughout the school demonstrate an interest in and affinity for Quaker philosophy and the School’s mission ability to provide educational experiences that include diverse cultures and backgrounds willingness to engage in restorative practices with students, families, and colleagues demonstrate a commitment to understanding and exploring how power and inequality, influenced by factors such as race, class, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, and differing physical abilities, impact our students, families and colleagues an orientation toward taking initiative and self-direction strong writing and communication skills ability to meet varied demands with integrity, enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor The Lower School The Lower School, strongly rooted in Quaker philosophy and student-centered practice, nurtures the intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical growth of the whole child.
