115-C and salary is dependent upon the education and experience of the selected candidate* This is a 11 month position paid over 12 months Offering a $7500 sign on bonus, contingent upon availability of funds, for Skilled, Highly Qualified teachers.
Skilled, Highly Qualified is defined as having obtained a NC DPI Certified Teaching license with VI (Visually Impaired) endorsement(s) and as is applicable to the student population/classroom served.
The Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS) provides residential and day educational programs to blind and/or visually impaired students, ages five to 22 years.
Governor Morehead School strives to offer specialized educational opportunities, community outreach, and an immersive environment for North Carolina students with visual impairments and additional disabilities.
Through unique and expert instruction, GMS creates a dynamic and inclusive environment for students to reach their highest potential in developing knowledge, skills, confidence, and values that will support them as independent, life-long learners to contribute to our global society.
GMS: Nurture, Innovate, Challenge, Empower GMS serves students across the state of North Carolina through K-12 enrollment, outreach short-term events, and summer school programs.
The campus is in Raleigh, NC.
We are actively recruiting for a Highly Qualified School Educator/Elementary Education/Teacher of Visually impaired.
This position provides instruction in all components of the Elementary Education curriculum to students in Elementary School.
The teacher will: Plan/develop implement, and evaluate instructional programs specific to students in elementary education; Develop and implement IEP modifications and /or goals; Provide developmentally appropriate instruction, using the IEP as a guide, to all students receiving services; Identify, utilize, and evaluate instructional materials designed for use with visually impaired students, based on the needs of the individual student; Establish a structured educational environment conducive to learning; Coordinate services with colleagues and support staff; Arrange and supervise supportive and developmentally appropriate activities such as parent programs and field trips for students; Prepare reports e.

report cards, progress reports, etc.
; Provide support when requested to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) for the purpose of the enrollment and assessment of students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies The employee must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of: The elementary curriculum in grades K-5; Classroom/instructional strategies and management; Use of current technology to provide quality instruction in the classroom and to perform web-based functions and prepare reports MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES: Applicants who have VI Certification (or willing to obtain) Special Education: General and/or Adapted Curriculum on Licensure (or willing to obtain) Background in teaching students with disabilities.
Some knowledge of IEP process.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to pass drug screening Must be able to pass Criminal Background Check Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Valid NC Teacher's License in Elementary (K-5) (or eligible for such) Teacher of the Visually Impaired, and/or willing to obtain the necessary add-on certification to teach this group of students.
