gov/state-employee-resources/benefits Primary Purpose of the Position: The Collections Manager for Live Animals is an animal care professional with diverse responsibilities in the museum’s Living Collections section, all in furtherance of progressive standards for care for museum animals.
This position applies knowledge of animal management, skill in handling data and communicating information across diverse platforms, and hands-on and creative problem-solving.
This position applies these to the design, operation, and evaluation of multiple programs for animal care and animal use.
This position is a member of section leadership and directly supports the museum’s mission.
Key Responsibilities: This position works closely with the Director of Living Collections, section curators, and other stakeholders to plan the animal collection and coordinate animal transactions.

This position uses interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to participate in and lead effective collaborative projects.

Division Description: The state’s museum devoted to science and nature, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in central Raleigh, is the largest institution of its kind in the Southeastern United States and, with over a million visitors a year, the state’s most visited museum.
Its 300,000 square foot downtown campus is augmented by Prairie Ridge Ecostation and satellite facilities in Whiteville, Greenville, and Contentnea Creek.
Together, they provide a variety of curriculum-focused classes onsite, offsite, outdoors, and online for pre-kindergarten through graduate students across the state.

We deliver a range of guest-facing programs, maintain a large collection of Ambassador Animals, maintain live plants, and collaborate with other museum sections to celebrate nature and advance science.
