The DSB Career and Training Center (CTC) in Raleigh, NC offers residentially based services are provided to individuals who are visually impaired, blind, or deafblind to assist them with achieving their goals of independence, education, and employment.
Many individuals served also have secondary disabilities.
Services are available to adults and teens.
The CTC is the sole residential training program for this population in NC.
Residential services make it possible to offer comprehensive, unique services to all NC residents.
The CTC offers residential services 24 hours a day, five to seven days a week 12 months a year.
This position is based in the CTC residential dorms and works 2pm-10:30pm, Sunday through Thursday.
The primary purpose of the position at the CTC from Sunday through Thursday is to provide monitoring of the dormitory computer labs.
This position will assist consumers with visual impairments in technical and instructional support in the use of the computer lab.
This position will also provide supports to consumers in the residential program with the following: orientation to the facility, adjustment to blindness issues, daily living skills, recreational activities and assurance of safety and security.
This position works under the direct supervision of the Residential Life Coordinator while working at the CTC; however, many of the duties and responsibilities are carried out with considerable independence.
While this position requires technical knowledge, it is a mix of both technical and human service skills in terms of working with visually impaired in the residential setting as well as students with vision loss learning to use the equipment with adaptive software.
