Good running Hahn Eclipse self propelled lawnmower was known for high quality, this model is one of the lowest profile gas powered mowers ever made.
The first pic shows it with the two red ball bearing wheels.
I found the 2nd red wheel after all but one picture was taken.
On these the crankshaft is very short unlike current mowers so it should be near impossible to bend if it hits a rock.
Also, the blade adapter allows slippage.
There is no drive pulley on the crankshaft or a gear box for the self-propel drive, it has the gear reduction in the engine with an auxiliary side output shaft with a belt and chain drive.
The aluminum deck is in exceptionally good shape, see pic.
Since the replacement blade has more lift angle to blow the grass out the side shoot a thin spacer was put under the blade so it doesn't hit an area on the underside of the low-profile deck.
It includes another blade adapter which would not need the spacer but haven't checked for fitting since it uses a different blade.
The engine is also
low profile since the recoil starter is a side mount instead of on top.
The height of the mower is 4 inches lower than my Toro self-propelled mower and is dramatically lighter.
The deck has an unusual feature when mowing near a wall or foundation it cuts much of grass by the way the deck protrudes behind the front left wheel, see pic.
This has been in the family since 1976 used by my stepfather then sat for a couple decades in storage with no gas (see pic, no rust in the gas tank) and was just gone through with cleaning and greasing various parts, cleaning and adjusting the points and ignition coil.
See in the pic where the recoil cover is held on one mount was chipped partly off and were tapped deeper with larger screws and is fine.
On the flywheel the very top of one cooling fin was chip off having no effect on the engine.
New recoil mechanism and starter rope just installed along with a new air filter and oil change at over $30.
Good running condition though the engine should someday be freshened up (oddly
if you wanted to on eBay these parts are inexpensive at 40 bucks with free shipping for new rings, gaskets, seals and connecting rod) the self-propel works excellent, the one-way sprag clutch and bushings in the wheels and axle has no noticeable wear since it has rubber seals were cleaned and regreased, see pic.
It rolls exceptionally easy, easier than a push mower.
Blade sharpened and balanced.
The driven pulley/sprocket axle and bronze bushings (see pic) has insignificant wear, were cleaned and regreased.
Both front wheels were changed since one was broken, includes the one original front wheel.
The rear tires were worn smooth and remarkably they are exactly the same width and diameter as the Honda HR214 wheel without the tire (see pic) and more remarkable the Honda wheel has replacement tires.
I put two used Honda tires on which are still good but has some cracks in the rubber on the sides so eventually may have to replace the tires.
If you want the original Hahn Eclipse wheels rear wheels, they are
currently for sale on eBay in like new tire condition.
With the Honda tires and replacement wheels it sits 1/8 inch higher and level as original.
It has lever adjustment for cutting height.
The engine is a typical Briggs engine of the 70s of common parts except it has the very rare auxiliary gear reduction output shaft of which this model engine used sold on eBay a few years ago for well over a $100 plus shipping.
If you buy the mower you can have the spare engine for $75.
