Description
Supervise and manage the US Patent teams in order to protect the company’s intellectual assets and avoid/mitigate the risk of violating third party intellectual property (IP) rights in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Main Responsibilities
1.
Report to the Senior Vice President, Global Intellectual Property.
2.
Supervise and direct the activities of the US Patent team in coordinating the global portfolio of all US patent personnel to ensure that global company strategy definition and execution is comprehensively and consistently supported by the US Patent Department.
3.
Work closely with Senior Director, EMEA & ASPAC Patents to ensure a coherent and coordinated Global patent strategy and aligned patent processes through notably global meetings.
4.
Actively participate, and represent the needs of the US Patent team, in IP Leadership Team Meetings.
5.
Advise senior management and SVP, Intellectual Property in all matters derived from US based patent personnel.
6.
Support SVP, Intellectual Property in managing US Patent budget and monitor and control costs with external legal service providers.
7.
Animate the US Patents team and support efficient and cost-effective global portfolio managements including but not limited to: in-house patent drafting, in-house patent prosecution, in-house FTO analyses and in-house patent due diligences.
8.
Organize the recruitment, training, and development of his/her team to identify and develop talents, increase team expertise in legal, technical and business matters covered by the US Patent Team.
Education
· Master’s degree in sciences.
· Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited US law school.
Experience
· 8+ years of IP experience in a law firm and/or preferably in-house.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Ability to influence, leadership, excellent analytical skills / Intellectual Property law, knowledge increased in chemistry and biology, organic chemistry, negotiation, knowledge of health products.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Subject matter expert in Global Patent prosecution, Global IP litigation, and Global post grant proceedings.
This role is based in Durham, NC or Salt Lake City, UT.
