General Description
The Orange County Solid Waste Management Department has an Permanent Part-time(FTE.
675) opening for an Office Assistant II.
The work involves the responsibility for performing administrative and clerical duties in support in the department of Solid Waste Management.
An employee in this class is responsible for providing customer service to the public, providing office support to staff, assisting walk-in customers and callers, entering data and information, ensuring necessary paperwork is completed, and maintaining files of records and reports.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Business Officer II with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions.
Does related work as required.
Supervision over others is not required of this position.

Answers incoming calls and provides assistance, takes messages and/or refers customers to the appropriate staff member or the website for available forms and resources, and assisting with questions regarding various recycling programs, landfill and sanitation operations, and solid waste questions for the towns.
Performs clerical duties including processing mail and emails, making copies, scanning, printing documents and sending emails and information to staff/customers.
Performs administrative duties including data entry, ordering office supplies, preparing deposit slips, making bank deposits, maintaining complaint log, preparing information packets for new hires.
Compiles information packets for special events/projects; fabricates signage; and assists with updating website information.
Enters work orders for recycling cart delivery or repair for customers participating in the recycling programs and informing customers about recyclable programs available in Orange County and maintaining and updating additions, changes, and deletions to curbside lists and the urban curbside master address file.
Receives complaint calls from customers for recycling programs and enters into database and emails a copy of the complaint to the Operations Manager; and follows up with call backs after notification has been given that the complaint has been resolved and provides monthly reporting for each program for management as directed.
Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.
Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a High School or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency AND two (2) years of experience working in a front office providing customer service and performing data entry and clerical functions; OR Completion of two (2) years of college course work AND one (1) 1 year of experience working in a front office providing customer service and performing data entry and clerical functions.
Bilingual ability is preferred, but not required.
