The Triangle's premier emergency and specialty hospital is seeking a highly motivated, highly skilled Registered Veterinary Technician to join our growing neurology team.

We provide 24-hour emergency service and specialty referrals in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, radiology and rehabilitation, and were looking for veterinary medical support staff who want to utilize their skills to the fullest potential in a fast paced, fun, and stimulating environment.
Members of the neurology team will function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility.
Solid technical skills and drug knowledge base, sound judgment, and the ability to function both independently and with a team are required.
Strong communication skills, verbal and written; organizational skills; proactive thinking and the right attitude are also a must.
The primary duties of the Neurology RVT are to facilitate neurology consults and rechecks, maintain medical records, induce, and monitor anesthesia using multi-parameter monitoring equipment for a variety of diagnostics and procedures.
Other duties include but are not limited to discharge of neuro patients and client education, excellent client communication, patient prep and recovery, patient assessment, and pain management.
The Neurology RVT will be trained in anesthesia for neurosurgeries and participate in neurosurgery anesthesia on-call.
Experience in specialty medicine or neurology is not required, but the right candidate will have a strong background in anesthesia and analgesia.
Specific Responsibilities
Assist in neurological examinations and perform diagnostics (to include blood work, radiographs, CT scan, MRI, Electrodiagnostics, etc)
Assist in neurosurgery on shift and as part of the neurosurgery anesthesia on-call rotation
In addition to anesthetic monitoring, technician may responsible for:
Patient preparation
Sterile gowning and gloving
Opening of the sterile surgical packs
Appropriately draping patient for the given procedure
Setting up the sterile surgical table
Assisting the surgeon during the procedure by being proactive and anticipatory of surgical and surgeon needs
Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients and medical care to outpatients
Maintain patient’s treatment record and medical note records under direction of clinician
Create anesthetic protocols and calculate drug dosages accurately
Give medications via all prescribed routes: PO, SC, IM, IV
Effectively care for and communicate with clients
Induce and monitor anesthesia for patients with an ASA III or greater
Recover patients after anesthesia
Maintain and care for anesthesia and neurology service equipment
Ensure adequate stocking of supplies on MRI truck, neurology workspaces, and surgery preparation area
Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols as well as handle biomedical and infectious waste appropriately
Follow radiation safety and OSHA standards
Work collaboratively and positively with all coworkers
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position in a healthcare facility which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Must be available Monday-Friday for full-time hours, although permanent hours are to be determined.
Rotating holiday and work during inclement weather are required.
Job Requirements
Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or higher
Current RVT in NC, or license eligible within 6 months of hire
2+ years of veterinary experience as a technician or assistant
1+ years of work experience as a veterinary technician in a veterinary specialty/ER setting (preferred)
