Position Summary The primary purpose of the Public Communications Specialist is to coordinate, develop, and supervise all communications, marketing and advertisement, website and social media content, and other related communication/marketing activities on behalf of the UNC Department of Neurology.
This position will develop and manage marketing and communication materials, highlight, and promote departmental successes to our internal/external partners/donors/colleagues/recruits, enhance information channels to and from individual faculty and others, and develop materials to educate others about the specialties within Neurology.
The position is integral in coordinating and enhancing the department’s creative process, brand recognition, communication platforms, marketing, and social media and web presence.
The position is key in aligning these activities amongst various stakeholders, including the department’s leadership team, School of Medicine, UNC Health and other external/internal organizations and agencies.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Excellent communication skills.
Experience designing and managing websites, social media accounts for content creation, maintenance, redesign, information dissemination, and continuity.
Skilled at research and lead marketing and advertising initiatives across multiple sections of the department in partnership with departmental leadership.
Ability to lead the writing, editing, design, and distribution of all print and electronic collateral (newsletters, one-pagers, annual reports, news, videos) and other related content.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in time-sensitive manner with minimal oversight.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience At least three years of professional marketing and communications experience, with evidence of creative production skills and public relations experience.
Experience in healthcare or academia communications is preferred.
Ability to write and edit materials for multiple audiences.
Experience with Adobe Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, SharePoint, Website development software (WordPress), and Microsoft Office Products.
Experience managing and disseminating content on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Experience creating content for media boards, videos, websites, social media, or other digital platforms.
