Amentum is seeking a 2nd shift CNC Machine Repair Tech for our facility operations & maintenance team in Durham, NC.
Typical work schedule is 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm.
This position will be a part of a technical team of 10 employees supporting technical operations at the client’s facility.
The scope of service includes the maintaining, development, execution, and continuously improve the preventative and predictive maintenance activities at the client’s site.
The equipment included in the scope is: Multi-Axis Wet and Dry Grinders Balancers Central Coolant Systems Pumps and Exhaust systems HVAC Units Hydraulic and electrical systems Robotic Tool Changers Your dedication to your craft is a valuable asset! 8 years of experience as an electrical / electronic is a plus Associate’s degree or technical training in Machine Tool Technology, CNC Programing, Electronic Controls, Electronics Engineering Technology or Automated Manufacturing Technology is highly desired This specialist performs as the technical expert with respect to installing, troubleshooting, servicing, and documenting the electrical/electronic, mechanical and controls needs of automated equipment in an industrial environment.
Maintains, improves, and troubleshoots, Machine Tools, Automated and CNC Machines with PLC and distributed I/O control systems such as Allen Bradley, Siemens 7, GE, Emerson, Reliance, Omron, Ceda, Honeywell and related controllers.
Must be well versed in robots and robotic control systems such as Fanuc, ABB, Mazatrol Kuka, Yaskawa, Kawasaki, Denso and Mitsubishi.
Must be fluent working with instrumentation such as thermocouples; RTDs and pressure, flow, position and level transducers; and associated equipment and techniques.
Works with voltage from control (12-24V) through medium voltage motor controls 480 volts, 3 phase.
This position provides instructions and mentors and trains less skilled technicians as required.
Must be an effective communicator with team, site management, vendors and customers.
This position will lead small to large repair, overhauls and construction projects with minimal supervision.
Must be capable of providing instruction, mentoring and training less skilled technicians as needed.
Effectively communicates with the site management team and the customer to understand requirements, solve complex electrical problems, and provide solutions to manufacturing problems.
The CNC Machine Repair Technician must have the ability to identify troubleshoot and correct any operational or safety-related issues and perform independent equipment root cause evaluations to identify potential equipment failures.
Identifies and documents cost savings.
Responsibilities: Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs Machine Tools and equipment.
Must understand and be capable of instrumentation and equipment calibration, for optimum performance.
Reads and understands electrical/electronic and mechanical schematics.
Programs and modifies ladder logic and function block languages.
Programs, modifies and interfaces with various MMI (HMI) devices.
Leverages proficiency in electronic data communication methods and techniques such as Profibus, profi-net, SCADA, Ethernet and remote I/O wired and wireless communication platforms.
Demonstrates through understanding of AC/DC motor control, including thyrister drives such as Siemens, ABB, Omron, Reliance, Saftronics, Klockner Moeller, Ceda, GE, Westinghouse.
Deploys solid knowledge of laser and optics machine vision, including Keyence, Effector, Cognex, Datalogic, Microscan and related equipment.
Demonstrates thorough understanding of hydraulic and pneumatics as related to electronic controls, including Vickers, Rexroth, Parker and various other manufacturers.
Acts on familiarity with feedback systems, PID controllers and servo systems and direct slide wire feedback.
Conceives and realizes automated solution implementing controls schemes.
Identifies, reviews, and recommends activities and upgrades/retrofits to improve maintenance and operation methods and equipment performance.
Develops and monitors work assignments for other technicians and coaches as appropriate.
Creates and modifies site operations procedures for equipment and recommends facilities reliability improvements.
Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations and industry standards.
Understands company policies and enforces safety regulations.
Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as performing job hazard analysis, following lockout/Tag out procedures, and wearing PPE as required.
Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help troubleshooting and repair.
Operates data loggers, analyzers, signal conditioners, remote pendent.
Operates oscilloscopes for troubleshooting and repair.
Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or educational equivalent required.
Eight years of experience performing Machine Tool SCADA operations, Building Automation System / Building Management System service and repair in a, heavy industrial, environment, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
