Summary
The Energy Markets Analyst position is located within the “Commercial Services – Deal Structure” organization and is responsible for 1) providing
analytical support on pricing and tariff mechanisms across regulated and unregulated energy markets in the U.
S.
and 2) working with multiple stakeholders across the organization to develop and implement profitable deal structures for PowerSecure and its customers.
This Position is Based in Durham, NC.
The position is Hybrid and does require an in-office presence.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree is required.
Degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, or another technical field is highly desired.
MS in these fields or an MBA is desired.
Minimum 2 year of experience in data analysis or economic analysis in the Energy, Power, or Utility industries is desired.
Experience with and understanding of energy market such as PJM, ISO-NE, NYISO, or ERCOT is highly desired.
Experience with and understanding of the pricing mechanisms and tariff structures used in regulated energy markets for commercial or industrial customers is highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong analytical skills and the ability to effectively aggregate, analyze, and disseminate detailed information with accuracy is required.
Experience working with retail electric providers (REP), curtailment service providers (CSP), and qualified scheduling entities (QSE) is desired Experience with proforma financial modeling including discounted cash flow (DCF) modeling Proficiency with standard Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and VBA is highly desired.
Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to discuss findings and recommendations concisely is required.
Ability to collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and utilities to acquire knowledge, resolve issues, and manage projects is required.
Essential Functions Provide subject matter expertise on U.
S.
energy markets and pricing/tariff structures for RFP responses.
Conduct research on utility tariffs in both regulated and deregulated markets in order to identify price signals that enable PowrSecure’s Distributed Energy Resource (DER) product offerings to create value.
Track current market and pricing, trends, and mechanisms across U.
S.
energy markets and proactively identify and communicate key issues that drive value for PowerSecure’s DER product offerings.
Work with Southern Company and external experts to identify federal, state, and utility-level policy changes that affect value.
Provide energy margin revenue and cost projections to support sales proposals.
Support the development and maintenance of analysis tools and calculators for consistent evaluation of market opportunities.
Support the Asset Management team during new asset implementations on key market issues, including QSE, CSP, and/or REP selection and help create ongoing tracking spreadsheets for asset performance and economics.
Work across the PowerSecure organization (e.
g.
R&D, Energy Storage, Software Development) to share knowledge of price signals and mechanisms as a means to help keep development initiatives aligned with energy market dynamics and trends.
Develop effective working relationships with internal teams, customers, and third-party market participants and capital providers.
Provide training to internal and external stakeholders as needed.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral, vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment For the most part, the work environment includes ambient room temperatures, well-lit work areas and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
