com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our engineering team at John Deere's facility in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.
As a member of our team, the selected candidate will ensure that prototype components and machines meet durability and performance requirements at key stages of the Product Development Process.
This is a full-time position that is indefinite in duration with the opportunity of professional growth, and additional opportunities within our organization.
Duties:
Decide upon appropriate tests to ensure durability and performance of new designs, developing new tests when necessary.
Execute test plans by conducting simple tests and assigning in-depth work to mechanics, lab engineers, field test sites, and structural analysts.
Lead the team through root cause investigations and data gathering when prototypes fail tests.
Apply mechanical and electrical engineering aptitude to assist design engineers, participate in design reviews, gather the right data, and design tests.
Learn company products and develop customer understanding to become a "voice of the customer" and plan tests that accurately represent customer usage.
Benchmark performance and capabilities of company products against competitor products.
Remain highly organized while managing multiple tasks and data streams.
Interact effectively with technical professionals across a variety of job roles and backgrounds, including teammates across the country or across the world.
Communicate technical and non-technical information clearly and concisely with peers and leadership in written and verbal forms.
Requirements:
4-year engineering degree preferred (or equivalent work experience).
Hands on skills and aptitude with mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical systems.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Strong leadership and people skills.
Basic engineering design experience using CAD (Creo/ProE preferred).
Understanding of the importance of each phase of product development (scoping, design, analysis, testing, customer feedback, and manufacturing).
Ability to analyze complex data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
Ability to communicate within a cross functional team across multiple sites and drive results.
Ability to write clearly and concisely to document test procedures and communicate results.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically to support field tests, loads collection, etc.
Preferred Skills:
Industry experience with mechanical systems, electrical systems, or data analysis
Industry product development experience and knowledge of the process
Project management experience (planning and execution)
Experience with digital data acquisition systems and sensors (e.
g.
, thermocouples, strain gauges, pressure sensors, etc.
)
Experience with statistics or Six Sigma
Experience with commercial mowers, riding mowers, golf course maintenance equipment, or tractors
