The primary purpose of the Family Planning State Nurse Consultant is to direct the clinical nursing activities of the Reproductive Health Branch.
The Nurse Consultant serves as a resource person for all levels of personnel; applies the principles of public health nursing, adult learning, management models and change theories; participates in the implementation of change and integration of practice, education and research.
The Family Planning nurse consultant demonstrates professional leadership in the public health community and serves as an advocate for women’s and men’s health issues throughout the life span.
Primary areas of responsibility include: Researches, develops and implements policies and programs based on evidence-based practice standards as they relate to family planning services.
Develops mechanisms to identify the need for and the provision of technical assistance to public and private providers of women’s and men’s reproductive health care.
Provides inter and intra agency consultation, collaboration and problem solving on clinical issues related to reproductive health services on a statewide and national level.
Determines educational and training needs to promote evidence-based practice for reproductive health clinical issues and develops training activities for individuals and/ or groups on a statewide level.

Knowledge of the methods, processes, and techniques used to develop and deliver specific programs, policies and initiatives designed to meet persons of reproductive health age health needs.
Knowledge of policy issues, operational problems and information needs of public, private, or nonprofit agencies and organizations engaged in financing and delivering services to promote persons of reproductive age.
Ability to develop, implement and evaluate systems of preventive health care and health promotion for persons of reproductive age.
Ability to work effectively as a team member with professionals, paraprofessionals, and the public and to present information clearly and concisely in oral and/or written form.
Management Preferences: Previous working experience in a local health department.
Sensitivity to different cultural/ethnic backgrounds.
