Occ Summary The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is a member of the Duke Annual Giving staff in the Law School Alumni and Development Office.
The Assistant Directoris responsible for creatively communicating the case for support for Duke Law priorities through direct mail, socia l media and volunteer programs.
This individual is responsible for the management and execution of the Law School’s strategic communication plan to raise critical support for Duke Law that is primarily focused on the Du ke Law Annual Fund.
The Assistant Director represents the Law School in its University wide communication partnership and manages the Law School’s direct mail fundraising campaigns.
The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Annual Giving.
Duties Annual Giving Communication: · Serve as the Law School’s program manager for the Duke Annual Fund’s Centralized Communication Plan.
In partnership with the Director of Annual Giving, identify authors, create persuasive content, and review data to ensure timely submission of all print and email solicitation materials.
· In partnership with the Director ofAnnual Giving, create and execute Law School specific direct marketing campaigns to include donor challenges, holiday campaigns, calendar year-end initiatives and fiscal year-end efforts.
Align messages to targeted donor segments.
Design and edit web pages, social posts and other printed pieces that are visually appealing and include a call to action or stewardship.
· In partnership with the Data, Research & Development Coordinator, track, evaluate and report on alumni donor participation and recommend initiatives and /or modifications that will facilitate growth in dollars, donors and major gift pipeline for Duke Law.
· Oversee all aspects of the recurring giving strategy, establish goals and execute a multichannel communications planto educate and encourage alumni to setup recurring gifts.
· Maintain fresh and timely content with innovative features on the Annual Fund pages of the Duke Law website.
· Manage data list and messaging for the University-wide student phone-a-thon program .
· Partner with the Director of Alumni Engagement on fun draising activities around LAA board members, including annual review of rating routine/ask amounts and direct mail solicitation.
Annual Giving Programs: · Manage the graduating class gift/commitment program.
Recruit, train and manage graduating class committee members.
Creatively manage all aspects of the peer to peer campaign, including but not lim ited to events, tabling, solicitations and challenges.
Manage ongoing stewardship of the graduating class program.
Maintain class gift/commitment website.
· Manage annual alumni challenge programs; recruit and onboard volunteers as appropriate; create direct mail marketing content and execute email campaigns and manage direct mail calendar.
· Partner with the Data, Research & Development Coordinator to ensure calendar year end and fiscal year end data lists are accurate for use by staff.
Make staff assignments for outreachand conduct 1:1 solicitations for gifts and pledge payments.
· Provide event support for Law School signature programs and events as needed, including, but not limited to,Reunion, Alumni Leaders hip Board weekends, Law School commencement and other alumni events.
· Perform other related duties asassigned.
Required Qualifications: Education: Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience: Work requires three years experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, sales andpromotions, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to administer, coordinate and/or participate in general fund raising activities and proposal development.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OFRELEVANT E DUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Skills and Qualifications Preferred: · Exceptional ability to think strategically and analytically with great attention to detail.
· An understanding and appreciati on of legal education and legal issues, and a willingness to become involved in the intellectual life of the Law School.
· Proven ability to work independ ently, to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and to take initiative.
· Superior written and oral communicationskills, computer skills, and organizational skills.
· Goal oriented, flexible andcomfortable dealing with ambiguity.
· Ability and willingness to occasionally work evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications Education Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
