Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) Position is available for a Hybrid Telework workweek
POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides leadership and guidance to schools when complex educational guidance is required related to students with disabilities.
Provides guidance and consultation to the SES Senior Administrators, Coordinating Teachers, Related Services, and Office of Early Learning staff.
Supports the department by leading professional development initiatives for principals, teachers, and staff members regarding implementation of special education policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations and school laws and policies related to Special Education;
Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
Effective time management skills;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to complete complex tasks and minimize errors with attention to detail;
Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to work as a team member;
Ability to plan and deliver professional development;
Ability to evaluate trainings and professional development to ensure topics and information are being implemented;

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or directly related field;
Five years of successful teaching experience.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Hold or be eligible for North Carolina Professional Educator's license for School Administrator, Principal, or Exceptional Children Program Administrator;
Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Special Education or directly related area;
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Special Education, School Administration, or directly related field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the Assistant Superintendent, Senior Director, and Director of Policy for Special Education Services by coordinating and providing guidance to schools regarding implementation of special education policy.
Collects, monitors, and reports data findings in several key areas within SES by communicating with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), as well as Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Offices of Data and Accountability, Student Support Services, Student Due Process, and Student Assignment.
Coordinates with schools in response to parent complaints to the NCDPI.
Coordinates with schools to facilitate requests for mediated and facilitated Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
Coordinates and manages responses to state complaints, Office of Civil Rights complaints, and Due Process Petitions, as directed by the Assistant Superintendent, Senior Director, and Director of Policy.
Monitors and complies with timelines regulations associated with Dispute Resolution options.
Coordinates with Board attorneys to schedule and support specific IEP meetings.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers.
The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community.
Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
The work requires driving automotive equipment.
