Overview
RTI International seeks a prospect for the Legal Summer Internship within the Office of Corporate Council in the General & Administrative (G&A) unit.
This internship is a contract position.
The employment contract is administered by Greene Resources Powered by Array, RTI’s supplemental staffing partner.
RTI’s Office of Corporate Counsel provides legal advice and counsel for RTI in its operations, both domestically and internationally.
Its staff represent subject matter expertise in the areas of employment law, international and comparative law, government regulations, government contracts, intellectual property, data privacy, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, ethics, and general corporate matters.
RTI’s Office of Corporate Counsel is dedicated to addressing complex legal and compliance issues aiding in RTI’s Mission of improving the human condition by turning knowledge into practice.
The Legal Summer Intern will assist with legal research, special projects, and other tasks on a variety of topics, including one or more of the following depending on the intern’s expressed interests and RTI’s needs and/or available projects: employment law, international and comparative law, government regulations, government contracts, intellectual property, data privacy, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, ethics, and general corporate matters.
The internship period is an 8-to-12-week period during the summer.
Each intern will be expected to commit to being with at RTI for at least 8 weeks to help enhance the experience.
Interns will work on a hybrid schedule, with at least two days per week onsite in our Research Triangle Park office.
Interns will generally be expected to work approximately 32 to 40 hours per week.
Learning Objectives: Gain an understanding of in-house counsel experience; Develop research and writing skills by working on complex legal issues; Hands-on experience working with internal clients on issues unique to an international non-profit organization; Opportunity to apply academic knowledge gained while learning new areas of law; and Interface with attorneys who are experts in their fields within the non-profit space.
Responsibilities Collaborating with members of RTI’s Office of Corporate Counsel.
Conducting legal research and drafting memos on a variety of topics, including employment law, international and comparative law, government regulations, government contracts, intellectual property, data privacy and cybersecurity, ethics, and general corporate matters.
Working on special projects and other tasks that may be assigned from time to time.
Attending meetings and presentations with relevant stakeholders as needed to better understand relevant issues.
RTI's Internship Program emphasizes experiential and mentored learning experiences, providing students and recent degree recipients an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills in a meaningful and practical way.

Additional Information This hybrid paid internship will take place from May 2024 through August 2024.
The internship requires a minimum commitment of 32-40 hours per week.
Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.
Qualifications Required Qualifications Current law student or recent graduate.

Demonstrated skills in research and writing.
Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications Written statement detailing interest in one or more of following legal areas: Employment Law, International and Comparative Law, Government Regulations, Government Contracts, Intellectual Property, Data Privacy, Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, Ethics, and General Corporate Matters.
Interest in RTI’s mission to improve the human condition through scientific and technical solutions.
