This position can be based in Raleigh/Durham, NC.

*Qualifications*
· VA accreditation required
· Candidate must be admitted and in good standing with a U.
S.
State Bar, preferably the N.
C.
State Bar
· Two+ years of experience in Veterans Disability law
· An ability to demonstrate effective oral and written advocacy skills and negotiation tactics
· An ability to apply analytical skills in addressing complex legal issues
· Must demonstrate strong communication skills to effectively communicate with clients and staff
· A demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of others
· Effectively shows empathy to claimants who are dealing with difficult circumstances
· Upbeat with a can-do attitude; must be able to work independently and have a desire to assume significant responsibility
· Ability to mentor and train paralegals and legal assistants in VA department
· Virtual capabilities are available for conducting hearings, but must have ability to travel for hearings if necessary.
Case related travel outside of North Carolina may occasionally be necessary, although not frequent
· Strong legal research and writings skills
· Must work well in a team environment
*Responsibilities*
· Handles the cases of those who have served honorably or received other types of discharge in any branch of the armed forces and who are seeking assistance in obtaining benefits from the Veterans Administration.
· Meet with clients to discuss their cases
· Prepare cases for hearings
· Review medical records for submission as evidence in VA hearings
· Legal research and writing of hearing briefs
· Prepare post-hearing memos
· Conducting administrative hearings for clients before judges for the Veterans Administration;
· Working with a team of intake specialists, Paralegals, Legal Assistants, and other staff to meet set team goals and to help all team members accomplish their given tasks
