Description of Work This is specialized legal work in a variety of program areas within the Office of Administrative Hearings in support of the activities of Administrative Law Judges where federal or state laws and rules dictate the delivery of specific services, programs and sanctions that are determined through administrative hearings.
Contested cases handled by this employee range from two party actions to complex administrative law litigation with not only the individual parties but multiple intervenors.
Position performs a wide variety of legal functions including researching, summarizing, and evaluating motions, petitions, transcripts, and briefs.
Position provides analysis, interpretation, and advice on a wide variety of administrative law issues that come before the Office of Administrative Hearings, which enables the Administrative Law Judges to make more legally sound decisions.
Position is responsible for case management for one Administrative Law Judge, as well as for drafting and reviewing legal documents, including orders on pre-hearing motions and final decisions.
Position also acts as the interface with litigants, state agency staff, and attorneys for the purposes of summarizing communications between outside parties and the Administrative Law Judge.
Position is responsible for managing and scheduling contested cases for hearing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Experience expressing legal interpretations or conclusions of law clearly and logically in oral and written form Knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial law and procedures, specifically the Administrative Procedure Act, rules of civil procedure, and rules of evidence Experience conducting legal research Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Juris Doctor from an appropriately accredited institution.
