Description of Work
SALARY GRADE: Flat Rated
The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Wilson County, seeks an individual to perform tasks that involve receipting and recording payments made to the Clerk of Superior Court.
Payments received are for a wide variety of purposes, including, but not limited to, fees, fines and judgments relating to civil, criminal, estate and special proceedings.
Payments receipted from the public and magistrates are typically in the form of cash.
As a Deputy Clerk, you may perform a variety of duties such as, but not limited to, the following:
Process cash receipts.
Serve as the Clerk of Superior Court office's first point of contact for the general public and direct customers to the appropriate division.
Handle money daily and is responsible for their cash drawer at the end of the day.
Examine currency to detect counterfeit, foreign, or damaged money.
Record receipts to appropriate account within the Financial Cash Receipting (FCR) system.
Operate computer, scanner, copier, ID/Badge equipment and fax machine.
Sort and route incoming mail.
Train backup cashiers in the use of the equipment.
New hires may be paid above the minimum rate depending on education and experience in a North Carolina Clerk of Superior Court office.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Knowledge of: NC general statutes; policies and procedures related to bookkeeping; local judicial district procedures; Financial Cash Receipting (FCR) system; processes used for receipting, recording and authenticating cash and money orders; general office/clerical procedures; and the structure and functions of the clerk's office.
Skills in: active listening; verbal communication; MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; and judicial system applications such as Financial Management System (FMS) and FCR.
Ability to: read and understand Bills of Cost and related documents; interact diplomatically with a diverse group of people in emotional situations; adapt to unexpected events; meet deadlines; organize and manage work; work independently; maintain confidentiality; provide procedural guidance without giving legal advice; and detect errors related to the receipting process.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience receiving, disbursing, and accounting for cash and cash items in a professional setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 18 years of age.
Wilson County residents preferred.
